The objective of Learning Curves is to support your objective - if your
objective is to incorporate critical thinking and intellectual skill
building into a natural and child-directed, family-friendly, learning
experience.
This site is for the family who values learning and
critical thinking skills and recognizes that education is part of our
natural human development and can be incorporated very organically into
our daily lives.
If you are from the school of
thought that a child must be rigorously drilled in the mechanics of
academic subject matter, then tested to measure their skill then this
blog is not for you. If you are from the school of thought that a child
should not be ‘taught’ anything at all but simply left to live as they
wish and absorb only what they wish, then this blog is not for you. In
fact, if you are from any ‘school’ of thought, then this site is not
for you.
This site is for those of us who
prefer to keep schooling out of our lives and who recognize that a
child’s healthy growth require a a balance of spiritual, physical and
intellectual development and that nurturing these are simply a natural
part of parenting and family life.
Because
critical skill building is very natural, it makes sense to take a more
natural approach. The goal is to procure a valuable and intellectually
skillful education in a way that embraces and celebrates the natural
world in which we live, the natural patterns of our every day lives, and
that utilizes our own particular skills, talents, passions, desires and
curiosities.
